People who are new to the field of housekeeping usually ask what a housekeeper duty is all about. In a simpler description, it is the responsibility of cleaning and maintaining the interior of a house.

When the term housekeeper is coined, the reference is directed to female domestic helpers. On the other hand, male house help are commonly known as houseboys or housecleaners. In the past, most housekeepers were given proper addresses, like Ms. or if married, Mrs., and were identified by their last names. Most housekeepers were given authority within homes.

What she will do is she will plan the household chores ahead of time and distributes the assignments to the servants. In most grand homes, the tasks are divided within departments. Some servants will be assigned to take care of the laundry; some will do the cleaning while the rest will do the cooking and so on. She acts as the household’s head.

Today however, there have been some notable changes in the typical housekeeper duty. While some households have retained this set-up, not every housekeeper nowadays is given supervisory duties. This is because you would not be able to find so many huge residences these days.

In most modern homes, a housekeeper was hired to do the household tasks alone instead of assigning those to servants who are under her supervision. This is how a modern housekeeper was described.

Many hotels and resorts now hire housekeepers as well. What they will do is that they will take care of the cleanliness and keep every unit of the place well organized. Sometimes, the housekeeper duty includes guest and customer service. She sends out the right person to process the guest’s or customer’s request.
